In this collection you will hear the sounds of the arctic ‐ haunting, alone, vast and dangerous. The pieces give the performer the opportunity to explore extreme registers and extreme dynamics and to paint wildly colorful soundscapes.
A wide palette of musical material awaits, from the alluring but stark mood of Arctic Voices, the extreme sadness of our Polar Bear’s Lament, the high energy, percussive vitality of Drum Dance, the playful frolicking of the Arctic Fox, the busy outdoor fun in Toques and Parkas, an afternoon of adventure for our Arctic Wolf, the exciting high speed ‘splash’ of the northern lights in Dancing Skies, the staid ‘forever’ feeling of Inuksuk, to the wild and crashing dissonances of Glaciers – all give the student a chance to create their own arctic journey.
Currently five pieces in this collection are in the RCM Syllabus. Arctic Voices – Grade 3, Arctic Fox – Grade 4, Lament for the Polar Bear and Dancing Skies – Grade 6 and Toques and Parkas – Grade 7.
