Edited for harp by Elisabeth Plank with a fascinating introduction by Richard Jenkyns, this is the first time that this sonata, attributed to Jane Austen, has been published and is the perfect piece to get acquainted with sonata form and the classical style. While we do not know if Jane Austen (1775–1817) played the harp herself, some of her heroines do, like Mary Crawford (Mansfield Park), the Musgrove girls (Persuasion), or Georgiana Darcy (Pride & Prejudice), and her cousin Eliza even owned a Holtzman harp (1777, Paris, single-action) and supposedly was the inspiration for Mary Crawford.
