"The three short pieces that form the Alt-Wiener Tanzweisen are among Fritz Kreisler’s most popular and famous works. The beauty and simplicity of the melodies together with the refined and sensitive piano accompaniment has made these pieces synonymous with the early 20th century salon music tradition and are arguably among the most popular 20th century violin works.
In these arrangements I have tried to stay close to Kreisler’s original piano part, keeping all those gorgeous harmonies, counter melodies and chromatic ornaments as untouched as possible. However, pieces like these need to flow freely and should not sound forced or difficult to play. I have therefore sometimes opted for a more idiomatic approach – trying to imagine how the pieces could have been written if originally intended for the guitar."
