Nihavend Saz Semaisi was composed by Hasib Dede (d. 1927), a Mevlevi dervish and a ney player from Erzurum, Eastern Turkey. Credited with nine compositions, this particular piece is one of his most well known works. There is no modulation in the piece and yet it never falls into dullness. Quite on the contrary, the rhythmic variations make for a very pleasant piece to play and to listen to.
