This three movement composition started life as a Sonatina for piano. When composer Christopher Norton heard it he immediately thought it would make a very effective Junior Concerto, with a solo piano part (the original Sonatina) supplemented by a part for a second piano as well as parts for string orchestra.
The Concerto is in three movements – fast-slow-fast – and should be playable by even quite young performers. It will give them a chance to play a scaled-down classical style concerto.
The Sonatina was written for my father, Ray Anthony Bradley, who sadly passed away in 2022. He was a happy and loving man and his nature is reflected in the music. I had to do something to cope with the loss of my father and this was the only way I knew how.
I hope you enjoy performing this Concerto as much as I enjoyed composing it.
I also want to thank my fantastic local teacher Nathan Rose, who has continued to encourage my attempts at composition.
