Micromusicals are short, fun music theatre productions, written for students aged from 5 to 15 years. Each musical is in one act and lasts from as little as 20 minutes to as much as an hour. It’s not necessary to have a stage - many of these musicals have been presented on the floor of an assembly hall or a gym.
Micromusicals can be used as a focal point for cross-curricular learning. They cover history, geography, English, mythology and much else besides. A list of curriculum links can be found at the back of each Micromusicals resource book.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a play written by Shakespeare between 1594 and 1596. The play is set in Athens, and has several subplots that revolve around the marriage of Theseus, Duke of Athens to Queen Hippolyta. One subplot involves a conflict between four young Athenians. Another follows a group of six amateur actors rehearsing a play which they are to perform before the wedding. Both groups find themselves in a forest inhabited by fairies, who manipulate the humans and are engaged in their own intrigues. The play is one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies and is still widely performed.
