Rumba is a stand-alone piece for cello and piano, written in 1970 for New Zealand cellist Christopher Salmon. It is a positive and extrovert piece, with a minor key A section and a major key B section. It is an early indication of the composer’s liking for Latin rhythms and characterful melody writing.
